Without a doubt, one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Avengers: Endgame is Tony Stark's death after he undid the snap. Thousands of fans can never move on from the heart-wrenching scene, and it seems like they won't get to move on, maybe ever, once they found out his final thought before dying.

In the 136th page of the Avengers: Endgame script, Iron Man supposedly had to say his final words to Pepper Potts. When his wife knelt down to assure him that they're going to be "okay," Stark actually reacted by staring at her. According to the script, his tears are "welling," as he utters, "I'm sorry."

Obviously, in the final cut, he didn't get to say this line, which suggests that this was his final thought before dying. In the script, after he apologizes, Pepper touches his face and kisses him. "You can rest now," she said. When Pepper pulled back, she saw that Stark's eyes were "fixed and glassy." Then, everything goes quiet as the heroes gather, realizing what has happened, Tony Stark is gone. You can read the full script here.

Just by reading this part, it would surely dawn on the fans once again, that even if it's already so heartbreaking as it is, with the release of the script revealing Stark's thought, it gets really sad more than ever.

Robert Downey Jr. will be starring in the film Dolittle, his first movie post-Endgame, which hits theaters on January 17, 2020.
