Avengers: Endgame Nominated for Multiple Critics Choice Awards


Awards season is just right around the corner and the Critics' Choice Association has taken the liberty of announcing its official roster of nominees for its 25th annual Critics' Choice Awards to be held next year. Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame is up for three awards, which makes it the second most nominated blockbuster next to the DCEU's highly-acclaimed Joker.

The nominations were dominated by legendary director Martin Scorsese and his latest gangster epic The Irishman with 14 nods, followed by Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which has 12 nominations.

The finale to the MCU's Infinity Saga will compete in the Best Action Movie category against Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Far From Home, John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, 1917, and Ford v Ferrari. Its other nomination comes from the Best Visual Effects category, which it will be up against Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, 1917, Ad Astra, The Aeronauts, and Disney's latest rendition of its classic The Lion King.

Its final nomination is for Best Sci-Fi or Horror movie, where it was nominated together with Ad Astra, Midsommar, and Jordan Peele's sophomore film Us.

"This has been a truly great year for television and movies," Joey Berline, the CCA's CEO, said in a statement. "In every genre, from every viewpoint and distribution platform, brilliant storytellers are challenging and delighting us. We are so excited to have the opportunity to celebrate them, and their work, on January 12 on The CW!" (via The Hollywood Reporter).

If you may recall, The Irishman director had started heated debates regarding superhero movies after a series of criticisms aimed against Marvel films. It will then be very interesting to see the director formally up against a superhero film in the coming weeks, especially with numerous actors and other filmmakers taking offering their own takes on the issue.

Marvel is set to begin its next phase with Black Widow to open on May 1, 2020.
