Avengers: Endgame Co-Director Says Taking Spider-Man Out Of MCU Is 'A Tragic Mistake'

There is little doubt that everyone is unhappy about Spider-Man being taken out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Sony and Disney failed to make a deal on how to move forward with the character's future projects. Interestingly, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo has spoken up about the situation and he believes that Sony is making "a tragic mistake."

Joe and his brother Anthony Russo recently spoke to Toronto Sun about the whole Spider-Man thing. Anthony pointed out that they "had a wonderful experience with" first working with Tom Holland in Captain America: Civil War but stated that it "isn't really that surprising" that the marriage between Sony and Marvel fell apart. Joe then shared his thoughts on the situation.

"It was a tenuous, fraught union throughout the whole process. But, I will say, stepping back and trying to be objective as possible, that I think it's a tragic mistake on Sony's part to think that they can replicate Kevin's penchant for telling incredible stories and the amazing success he has had over the years. I think it's a big mistake," he said.

Most people would probably agree with Joe on this one. Spider-Man already had an amazing storyline in the MCU and things are set to fall apart now that the webslinger isn't a part of that comic book universe anymore. Nevertheless, it looks like Holland is ready to take on new Spider-Man movies that will be solely produced by Sony.

The Russo brothers are set to work with Holland again on the new film Cherry, which is expected to begin production soon.
