Following the news of Stewart's passing, Marvel Studios released a statement that paid tribute to the life and legacy of the late actor in the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise and the MCU.

"Marvel Studios is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart, the legendary English actor who brought Professor Charles Xavier to life. He was 86," the studio wrote.

"Stewart made his debut as Professor X in 2000’s X-Men, where he embodied the composure, class, and wisdom of the beloved telepathic mutant and mentor of the X-Men. For more than 25 years, he brought gravitas and profundity to the role, earning fans across the globe and helping to transform Super Hero storytelling forever."

Marvel confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday is the final movie appearance of Stewart, who filmed his scenes in 2025, and reunited with his long-time friend Sir Ian McKellen.

The studio added, "He reprised the role in multiple X-Men films, culminating with an unforgettable performance in 2017’s Logan. In 2022, Stewart joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an alternate-universe Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He returned to the role once more with 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, his final on-screen appearance."

This is bittersweet for fans, given that Professor Charles Xavier was one of the most iconic roles for the late actor, and they will be able to see his portrayal of the character one last time before the year ends. Not only that, as we've seen in the trailers and promos, he was able to share scenes with McKellen and the rest of the X-Men family.
