Avatar 2: Sigourney Weaver Learned Parkour for The Way of Water

There is little doubt that people are still a bit confused about Sigourney Weaver's return in Avatar: The Way of Water. Still, it looks like the Alien star went through a lot just to play a new character in the James Cameron sequel. Weaver has just revealed that she had to learn parkour for the highly anticipated movie!

Sigourney Weaver recently spoke to Interview Magazine where she shared her intense preparations for the sequel.

"On Avatar: The Way of Water, I was older than a lot of the other people, and we had to do a lot of parkour. We had to do burpees," Weaver said. She also pointed out that since her character practically lives underwater, she needed to take freediving lessons that she truly enjoyed.

"We had to do freediving. Don’t you love these jobs where you have to learn some really outlandish thing that you keep with you for the rest of your life? Freediving, especially, I’m grateful that we spent a year doing that," Weaver said.

Weaver previously played Dr. Grace Augustine who died in the 2009 film. In The Way of water, she portrays Kiri, a young Na'vi who happens to be the adopted teenage daughter of Jake and Neytiri. We're not sure how it all works out but considering that Grace's soul had joined the Tree of Souls, there is a possibility that she had been reincarnated into a Na'vi child.

Sigourney Weaver previously admitted that she was thrilled to play a new character, especially a teenager and was happy to take on the role in the James Cameron movie.

“I think we all pretty much remember what we were feeling as adolescents,” she said. “I certainly do. I was 5’ 10” or 5’ 11” when I was 11. I felt strongly that Kiri would feel awkward a lot of the time. She’s searching for who she is. I was thrilled to be given that challenge by Jim.”

Avatar: The Way of Water will premiere on December 16, 2022.
