When the first John Wick premiered in 2014, it received impressive reviews and a good box office turnout. And now that the continuation of the trilogy has commenced with John Wick: Chapter 4, the excellence in breaking records and positive reactions also carry on. Given the noteworthy attention that the action thriller franchise keeps on receiving, fans are expecting more narratives in the form of spinoffs or other movies from the same universe.
According to previous reports, two John Wick spin-offs are in development: the limited series The Continental for 2023 and the film Ballerina in 2024; additionally, a fifth main installment, originally intended to be shot back-to-back with the fourth film, is also in the works. While promoting John Wick 4, producer Erica Lee confirmed that the franchise is developing more stories for the fans. “Yeah, we're definitely developing more spin-offs,” she said.
Lee explained, “The Continental was something that we always were really interested in. The Bowery King and the Underground, what is that world like? [...] These are just things I personally would love to explore. And now that 'John Wick 4' will be out in the world, I think even more ideas will start flowing.”

The producer also noted that another main source of interest is the dogs. “Where do these dogs come from? How do you get them? What is a tracker? Where is he trained? I don't know, these are just things we think about and talk about,” she said. Despite the recent statements by Lee, Keanu Reeves, who plays the titular role, and director Chad Stahelski, they previously stated that they might be taking a break from the franchise after the fourth movie.
“In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We're going to give John Wick a rest,” Stahelski said. “I'm sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we'll take a quiet minute.” If the plan is to develop more spinoffs not focusing on Reeves’ John Wick, then it’s only fair that the actor shies away from the narrative for a while, but most fans surely would want him just around.
