Archer Season 12 Finale: Saying Goodbye To Jessica Walter And How They Pulled It Off

Archer Season 12 finale episode is full of comedic gold yet also has a bittersweet note to it. One of the longest-running characters in the show is saying goodbye. Jessica Walter, who voices Malory Archer -- the formidable mother of our super-spy Sterling Archer, passed away earlier this year. Fans are going to miss her as they continue to watch FXX's spy comedy, Archer.

So, how did they pull off Malory Archer's swan song in Archer Season 12 finale? Here's how they did it.

As usual, Archer got himself in a tight situation in the finale and needed the help of his gang. In Archer Season 12 finale, Archer was being held hostage by evil corporate owner Fabian and Archer's nemesis Barry, an evil cyborg. During most of the episode, Jessica Walter was absent, and according to Lana, she was too distraught about her son's kidnapping.

Between the fight scene, Jessica Walter did appear and showed everyone why she is the head of the spy company. Archer was impressed with his mother. As always, every time Archer gets in trouble, Malory is there to save him.

Malory helped bring down Barry but, before they knew it, she was gone from the scene. Later on, when Archer and his pals were able to escape, Archer found out that the company owned by his mother was purchased through a shell company by Fabian.

It was then paned to an epilogue where Archer finds a letter from Malory, saying that she is making an exit on her terms and that it is time to pass the torch.

In the end scene, Malory is on an island with her husband, Ron Cadillac, sipping cocktails and holding hands -- a very cinematic way of saying goodbye to Jessica Walter.

ArcherSeason 13 Rumors

Despite Malory not being part of the cast anymore, Archer Season 13 is still happening. According to FXX, the spy comedy will return sometime around 2022. It will be limited to eight episodes, and no specific date has been given out yet.
