The Apothecary Diaries premiered with a one-hour anime special back in October 2023, and it got a lot of attention thanks to its eye-catching visuals, interesting story, and loveable protagonist in Maomao.
Fans were treated to more episodes after fall 2023 as the show got another cour with 12 episodes.
In total, The Apothecary Diaries season 1 has 24 episodes, including the one-hour premiere split into three episodes.
It's clear that this anime was a huge hit. Aside from generating lots of discussions online, the anime also resulted in a big sales boost for the manga and light novel.
Back in November 2023, the series had over 27 million copies in circulation. Then in January 2024, that number was boosted to 31 million.
Take note that these include circulation numbers for the two manga adaptations and the light novel series.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 is Official
The Apothecary Diaries season 2 has finally been confirmed, no doubt thanks to the first season's successful run.
Season 2 was revealed via a special announcement video released after the first season's 24th episode. The video highlighted a new visual featuring Maomao and Jinshi.
The new visual was then shared on the anime's official X (formerly Twitter) account.
It features Maomao and Jinshi depicted in the show's dazzling art style. As expected, both the visual and the Season 2 confirmation delighted Japanese and international fans based on social media reactions.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Release Date Window Confirmed
Currently, The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 has a 2025 release date window. There's no word on more specific release plans though.
Given the show's success, it's likely that the animation team at OLM is already working on the show's new season.
Even if work has begun ASAP, the sequel may not premiere until Spring or Summer 2025. After all, the show's impressive visuals will likely need a lot of time to be produced.
