Anthony Mackie Had An Epic Reaction To Captain America's Avengers: Endgame Twist [SPOILERS]

At this point, everyone has probably already seen Avengers: Endgame considering that the film is nearing the $2 billion mark on its second weekend. Nevertheless, I'm just throwing out the spoiler warning just to be sure.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead! Proceed with caution!

In Endgame, Steve Rogers went back in time to return all of the Infinity Stones after they finally undid Thanos' snap. However, Steve didn't go back to the present day and decided to try living a normal life with Peggy Carter. At the end of the film, he passed on the restored Captain America shield to Sam Wilson.

Naturally, this means that Falcon will officially be taking the Captain America mantle in the future Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks. The thought is truly an exciting one, and Anthony Mackie revealed that he found out about in the best way possible.

Mackie confirmed with IMDb that it was Chris Evans who told him about Falcon's fate.

"We were at [Evans'] house and he goes, 'You excited?' And I go, 'What are you talking about?' and he goes, 'You don't know?' He jumps up, runs out of the room and comes back in with the script… We cried. We drank. We laughed. I am very happy I got that moment with Chris, for him to not only pass me the shield but to tell me it was happening," Mackie said.

It's certainly amazing how Mackie had no idea that Falcon was destined to become Captain America. However, the Altered Carbon actor also shared that he was very emotional when they finally shot the scene for Endgame.

"It means a lot to me for my sons to see Captain America as a black dude and for me to be that dude to my sons. So that moment was not just, 'Hey, we're acting.' It was more of a thing. And then they cut and I cried. And Chris cried. And the Russos cried. And everyone cried. It was an emotional day," Mackie said.

He's not kidding about everyone crying. Steve passing the shield to Sam and getting a supportive nod from Bucky Barnes was one of the best scenes in Endgame and it certainly left the audience in tears. Needless to say, we're looking forward to seeing Falcon as the new Captain America soon.

Avengers: Endgame is still screening in theaters worldwide.
