Ant-Man 3 Writer Reiterates How This Kang Is Different From Loki Variant

Jonathan Majors, who plays the MCU’s new big bad, has been no short on promoting why the Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the scariest variant. Apart from the new threequel trailer featuring the fact that Kang has killed Avengers before, screenwriter Jeff Loveness adds on to that on why Kang is different in this film than from the variant we saw in the Loki finale.

Of course, one of the main reasons is that this Kang in the Quantum Realm is a different variant, seeing as the Kang found in the Loki finale has already been killed off. Loveness discusses Kang in a recent interview with Variety, noting that they have wanted Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to be different, including the new big bad entering the MCU:

“I think jumping off of Loki, where he’s more of a whimsical, unexpected character, we just wanted to break expectations with this third movie,” Loveness explained, “I think everyone kind of maybe expected a funnier or goofier Ant-Man villain, so Peyton and I said, ‘No, let’s put Ant-Man up against the most dangerous villain in the Multiverse, and let’s do the opposite of what you saw in Loki. Let’s make this the worst of the worst, and there’s a reason he’s here.’”

The creatives behind Ant-Man 3 have always wanted to put the titular hero on the map, seeing as the Ant-Man films have often been brushed off to be “cleansing palates” in exchange for what Avengers films have in store for fans. However, Loveness is reiterating they are changing that MCU history with Quantumania. Loveness continues on to say how lucky they are to have landed with Jonathan Majors in Kang’s role:

“And Jonathan [Majors] is incredible. I don’t think I’ve seen a screen actor like him in quite some time, so the guy nailed every line and I’ve never had such a thrill writing for an actor like him before.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters this February 17, 2023.
