Ant-Man 3 Star Spills Marvel's Original Plan for Bill Murray's Character

Bill Murray made his MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as Krylar, a governor in Quantum Realm who had a history with Janet van Dyne. However, his tenure in the franchise was short-lived as his character was quickly killed off by a calamari-like creature during a battle sequence.

In an interview with Inverse, Katy O'Brian, who played Jentorra in the film, revealed that Murray's screentime was originally going to be bigger than what we've seen in the final cut. As it turns out, he was supposed to be alive by the end of the film.

The actress spilled that, instead of getting killed earlier in the film, he was going to be arrested by Kang the Conqueror during a space pursuit. However, as we all know, the plans were changed and the character's screen time was reduced to a single sequence that ended with his death.

"I had a couple fight scenes that got cut out and there were a couple moments with Bill Murray. Instead of just getting killed, he did a whole space pursuit with them and then wound up with Kang and got arrested or something. It was a lot. It would’ve been like a three-hour movie," O'Brian said.

"They took him to jail and then he had some really cute little jail clips, and then I helped bust him out, and then he pretends that he’s with me the whole time and ready to fight. And I’m like, 'Bro, come on.'"

O'Brian also revealed that Marvel was making a lot of last-minute changes to the script until the last day of shooting which explains the different changes that they made from the original plans.

She added, "That’s mostly what I remember. But they were adding stuff to the script until the last day of shooting. So there was so much stuff that I think got cut in the end."

This is certainly interesting behind-the-scenes information since it adds up the explanation of why Murray's screen time in the film was smaller than what most fans expected given his stature and perceived role in the story.

It is also yet again another example of how Marvel Studios was notorious for making a lot of changes to their films even up to the last second. While we will never know why Murray's presence was reduced, it also opens up a question of whether the film would have changed drastically if it retained its original plans.
