Anime Adaptation of Horror Manga Uzumaki Gets New Teaser

If you're looking for an intro into horror manga, I suggest you check out Junji Ito's fantastic Uzumaki series. The book ran from 1998 to 1999, and what's cool is, Toonami is adapting it into an anime series.

Here's the official description:

Spiral into the dark! Toonami is proud to announce the newest anime series created in partnership with Production IG USA. Uzumaki, a four episode mini-series based on the supernatural horror manga by legendary author Junji Ito, will premiere on Toonami in 2020!

If you're curious about the story of the manga, it's basically a horror anthology series which deals with "spirals" (Uzumaki literally translates to "spirals"). Though a spiral pattern doesn't seem scary on the surface, the manga manages to go into really dark places that after you read it, spirals will never look the same.

The series is set to be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama who has also worked on other anime like Detroit Metal City and Mushi-Shi. The music for the series also comes from Hereditary's composer Colin Stetson.

What I also think is cool is that the series looks to be following the same art style as the manga. If anything, Ito's art is very distinct, and not having it adapted into the anime would seem like a wasted opportunity. I would even be fine if everything was in black and white as well.

No specific release date has been released for Uzumaki, but expect it to hit Toonami sometime in 2020.
