There is little doubt that Supreme Leader Snoke's death was one of the most shocking things in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. After all, the character was being built up to be the main villain and people were expecting Snoke to play a larger role in Episode IX.
Not surprisingly, fans were not the only ones who were disappointed about the unexpected death. Andy Serkis admits he was "devastated" when Snoke was unceremoniously killed in Episode VIII.
Serkis first played Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens where the character only appeared as a hologram. It wasn't until The Last Jedi that fans got to see the menacing character in the flesh but that was promptly cut short when Kylo Ren decided to save Rey and fight against the Supreme Leader.
But how did Serkis react when he learned his character was getting killed off? In an interview with io9, the Lord of the Rings star confessed that he never saw it coming.
"I was devastated when I read that script because it was all going so well," Serkis said. "I was like, ‘Man, this is a boss character. I'm going to love playing... what!? You're kidding me, what?' I was like ‘Okay, is a good idea? I suppose it is. I was slightly mortified, pardon the pun."
Although he wasn't happy about Snoke's demise, Serkis still managed to take it like a man.
"It was all in the right, I think," Serkis continued. "I loved playing that character and I love the face-off scene between Kylo Ren and Rey, and so it was great."
We're going to say that Serkis' reaction to Snoke's death was justified considering that almost everyone was expecting something huge from the villain. We would have preferred for the character to be given more screentime but in the end, the death made sense.
Serkis is currently promoting his new film Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The film is scheduled for release on October 1, 2021.
