Andor: Andy Serkis Breaks Silence on Surprise Star Wars Return

Andy Serkis, who played Snoke in the sequel trilogy, recently made his surprise return to the Star Wars franchise in the latest episode of Andor with the new role of inmate and labor foreman Kino Loy. His appearance was celebrated by fans who didn't expect him to make a comeback in the Star Wars universe for a very different role than he previously played.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair discussing his surprise Andor role, Serkis revealed that he was initially hesitant about returning to the Star Wars franchise due to concerns that fans will think that his role has a connection to Snoke's origins. However, he ended up agreeing due to his love for Rogue One.

"It's a difficult one because I'm sure that's exactly what people will think. And why would they think other? I was a bit confused as to whether to do it or not, but it was purely because I love Rogue One," the actor said.

"I truly loved the grounding of that film in a world which felt both real and yet still felt epic. Also, I'm getting to play a character at the opposite end of the spectrum of a highly powerful Supreme Leader. [Kino Loy] is someone who is a real person in this world."

It is exciting that Serkis is returning to the Star Wars franchise, especially since his role is looking to be much more significant and it will give him more opportunity acting-wise and screentime-wise to chew on. It is curious to see where they'll take the character next in the next couple of episodes.

While it is looking like his casting has no connection to Snoke's origins (after all the series is set far before the events of the sequel trilogy), some fans still can't help but think about whether the actor's casting as Kino Loy will lead to some explanation for Snoke's backstory. However, it seems that we can't count on that idea and this is just a matter of casting an actor that is fit for the role.
