The horror franchise Anaconda gets a 2025 reboot treatment starring two major Hollywood comedians in obscure roles. Here's what Columbia Pictures hopes to accomplish with the modernized version of the 1997 cult classic.
Reimagined Anaconda Eyes Major Hollywood Comedians To Star
A reimagination of the Hollywood cult classic Anaconda is getting launched as a mini-franchise soon. The Anaconda reboot project has been in the works since 2023.
Starring the likes of Tenacious D star Jack Black and Marvel's very own Ant-Man aka Scott Lang, Paul Rudd, the upcoming horror reboot will be directed by The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent's Tom Gormican while co-writing with collaborator Kevin Etten.
According to THR sources, the 1997-inspired film will center on a "group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth." That is until they find themselves in the rainforest fighting for their lives against "natural disasters, giant snakes, and violent criminals."
While nothing has been fully confirmed yet on who else is a part of the roster, Black will reportedly be a former director who gets stuck as a wedding videographer in his career.
Rudd suffers a similar dilemma, being a former actor who once did a stint on a cop show and sees his Hollywood dream slip through his fingers.
However, it is possible that their roles could be switched the other way around, depending on how the story goes.
The initial Anaconda movie grossed $136 million at the global box office and followed a series of films and installments by 2004 before it sprung two more 'offsprings': Anaconda 3 in 2008 and Anacondas: Trail of Blood in 2009.
The franchise's last movie to grace the big screens was back in 2015, which was a crossover with the Lake Placid series' croc: Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
It remains to be seen if the Anaconda reboot will truly come to fruition soon, but as of writing, the horror flick is slated to premiere in 2025.
