Helena Bonham Carter was asked about Johnny Depp following his legal victory over his ex-wife Amber Heard. Carter, who starred alongside Depp in various films, believed he was "vindicated."

Helena Bonham Carter Said Johnny Depp Was "Vindicated"

Bonham Carter and Depp have worked together on various movie projects. They starred in the 2005 movies Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride. They reunited later for the 2007 musical slasher film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and worked again in the 2012 American dark fantasy film Dark Shadows.

In an interview with The Times, Bonham Carter clarified that she doesn't support cancel culture. She also shared her thoughts on how Depp was doing following her big win over the summer in his defamation trial against Heard.

"Oh, I think he's completely vindicated," she said of Depp, Fox News Digital reported. "I think he's fine now. Totally fine."

Amber Heard Wanted To Be The Poster Girl?

Bonham Carter also briefly discussed the #MeToo movement and Heard. The Aquaman star became the face of the #MeToo movement when she came forward and shared her abuse story. However, Bonham Carter felt that she just took advantage of the campaign that encouraged men and women to come forward with their stories of abuse at the hands of powerful individuals.

"She got on that pendulum. That's the problem with these things — that people will jump on the bandwagon because it's the trend and to be the poster girl for it," she said of Heard.

What Did Johnny Depp's Lawyer Say About Amber Heard's Allegations?

Depp's lawyer Benjamin Chew said Heard's damaging claims

against the Pirates of the Caribbean star abusing her physically and psychologically when they were together was an example of "MeToo without any MeToo." He added that the MeToo movement was for "true survivors of abuse, not Ms Heard," The Telegraph reported.

"What we have is a mountain of unproven allegations that are wild, over the top, and implausible," attorney Camille Vasquez added. "And you can't pick and choose which of these wild allegations to believe and which ones to disregard. You either believe all of it or none of it."

"Either she's a victim of truly horrific abuse, or she is a woman who is willing to say absolutely anything," Ms Vasquez continued.

"What is at stake in this trial is a man's good name. Even more than that, what is at stake at this trial is a man's life. The life that he lost when he was accused of heinous crimes and the life he could live when he is finally vindicated."

Heard said during the trial that she wanted "Johnny to leave me alone." However, she appealed the June 1 verdict, prompting Depp to do the same. So, their legal battle continued.
