Amazon Prime Video has scrapped the Spider-Man live-action spinoff series Silk: Spider Society after years of being stuck in development.

The project was first announced back in 2019 and it was intended to be the first Spider-Verse live-action series. The spinoff would have focused on Korean-American superhero Cindy Moon aka Silk.

However, the project remained in development throughout the years and there were reports in the past few months that the writers were all released as it was undergoing massive creative overhaul.

Silk: Spider Society Canceled at Amazon, Sony Will Look for Other Buyers

Reports confirmed that Amazon Prime Video is no longer moving forward with Silk: Spider Society. Sony is planning to shop the project to other buyers.

The news comes in the aftermath of the announcement earlier this week that Amazon and MGM+ have given a series order to Noir, the Spider-Man Noir live-action series starring Nicolas Cage.

The report explained that the project underwent at least three versions throughout its development process. One of them saw the Amazon executives asking the writing team to reconfigure the series and not make it heavily focused on Silk.

The most recent pitch from showrunner Angela Kang was well-received. However, after assessing their strategy for the genre IP projects, Amazon decided to pull the plug on Silk and proceed with Noir.

This is certainly disappointing news for fans of the character since it looks like we won't be seeing her live-action debut anytime soon and they have to wait more to see the solo project come to fruition.

Hopefully, Sony will be able to find a new home for the project soon to make sure that Silk will still get her due on the live-action space. Considering that it is attached to the Spider-Man property, there is a chance that they could attract another buyer.
