Amazing Spider-Man Star Details Failed Sinister Six Movie Plans

The Amazing Spider-Man 2's post-credits scene teased the formation of the Sinister Six for a potential spinoff, but the idea never came into fruition following the film's lackluster performance. Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard was initially set to write and direct it, and now, one of the potential stars in the film opened up about the now-dead project.

"Not necessarily," Dane DeHaan, who played the role of Green Goblin, told Collider when asked if he knew some information about the spinoff plans. "I think it's pretty obvious they were all setting up for like a Sinister Six kind of situation and there was certainly talk of doing all that before all the Disney, Marvel stuff happened."

DeHaan says he can't specify what it was going to be, though he was sure that the film had a Sinister Six element to it. "And, you know, at least the Goblin," he added. "If not Harry Osborne would have been involved."

Though The Amazing Spider-Man franchise seemingly laid the groundwork for the appearance of the group, the deal made it quite complicated for that to happen. DeHaan's character was expected to be the leader of Sinister Six, but as it stands, it's unclear when they would make their official debut. Nonetheless, some fans are hoping to see the team someday, but it would likely take a long time for that to happen, given the circumstances.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
