All the World Between World References In the Ahsoka Trailer

Ahsoka (2023) will be arriving on Disney+ this August, and if the brand-new trailer that emerged from this year's Star Wars Celebration event in London doesn't have you excited, then quite frankly, nothing will! But is the upcoming Mando-Verse series set to break new ground for Star Wars? Well, here are all the "World Between World" references you may have missed in the trailer...

Ahsoka is set to serve as a live-action sequel to the hit animated show Star Wars: Rebels (2014), which is plain to see from its cast/characters alone. Natasha Liu Bordizzo is playing the Mandalorian graffiti artist, Sabine Wren, Eman Esfandi is playing long lost Jedi Ezra Bridger, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is bringing Twi-lek pilot Hera Syndulla to life in live action, and, of course, Rosario Dawson reprises her role as Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Even erratic Astromech droid Chopper is back, and, more than likely, Steve Blum will return as Lasat warrior Zeb Orrelios, having recently appeared in The Mandalorian (2019).

But it's not just about bringing characters from Rebels into the fold, as Ahsoka is also set to follow on from the animated show from a narrative perspective. Though the upcoming series takes place some decade after the events in Rebels, it will revolve around the continued search for Ezra Bridger, who disappeared in the show's finale, after ensnaring Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) in a trap in which the whale-like purrgil jumped into a natural hyperspace. Unfortunately, Ezra ended up going with them into the unknown.

Ahsoka will take place during the New Republic era, or in other words, the Mando-Verse timeline, which is some five years after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983). As such, and as seen in the trailer, the titular Jedi and her rebel-companions will undoubtedly end up dealing with the remnants of the Empire in some shape or form, however, the threat appears to be far greater than just Imperial stragglers, as we see two new enemies in the form of Ivanna Sakhno (Shin Hati) and Ray Stevenson (Baylan).

These two Force-wielders appear to be Sith, however, they could be Dark Jedi, while many believe Shin is actually connected to the Night Sisters of Dathomir as seen in beloved animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - yes, actual witches. Either way, it would appear that Ahsoka is going to lean into uncharted territory where the faraway galaxy is concerned, and one other element from Rebels the upcoming show could be bringing to life in live action besides the characters is the "World Between Worlds".

The World Between Worlds was first introduced in the Season 4 episode of the same name, in which Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray) and Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) find themselves in a mystical dimension where time and space do not exist, and where they can hear the voices of Jedi from the past and the future. In other words, time travel. But will Ahsoka really bring the World Between Worlds into live-action Star Wars? Well, there are plenty of clues in the trailer that suggest it will.

From the opening scene, in which Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) is wandering through the ruins of either an ancient Jedi or Sith temple, we see a symbol on the ground that looks very much like that of the World Between Worlds. Later in the trailer, she's facing off against Baylan in a setting that looks just like the mystical dimension. And then, just before the trailer ends, the droid Huyang from The Clone Wars (David Tennant reprises his role) says, "Perhaps it is time to begin again". Could he be referring to time travel?

But if all that isn't enough to convince you, then just look at the Ahsoka logo right at the end of the trailer, which has the World Between Worlds as its backdrop!

As per Disney and Lucasfilm, here's the official trailer for Ahsoka:
