What's up with Hank's Russian Fiancée Alina in True Detective? He's always mentioned that he has a fiancée, but never actually introduced the mystery woman. Alina has yet to see the light of day on the show but here's what fans think happened with Hank's supposed "fiancée."
Who is Alina in True Detective Season 4?
One other thing that the crime thriller series seeks to highlight apart from the mysterious deaths of Alaskan researchers is the personal lives that each detective is living outside of their work.
One of them happens to be Detective Hank Prior.
While Hank's relationship with his son, Peter Prior, is practically in shambles, this doesn't stop him from looking for other ways to find happiness.
This is when he mentions his Russian fiancée, Alina, whom he had constantly claimed to be in contact with since the first episode.
Hank painted the living room blue to seemingly please her, and even sent her money when she asked for it over text.
However, things went south the moment True Detective Season 4 Episode 4 arrived.
When Hank was led to believe that she was coming over to his hometown Ennis, Alaska, he waited at the airport, only to realize she was never going to show up.
Was Alina a real person to begin with? Here's what fans have to say about the episode.

Is Alina Really Hank's "Russian Fiancée"? Here's What Fans Think
According to fans' discussion on Reddit, it is quite clear that Alina is nothing more than a con artist who targeted Detective Hank Prior.
One fan pointed out that Alina didn't even correct Hank when he sent framed photos of him and his kid instead of just using a selfie to see what he looked like.
While this might be too on the nose for Hank to continuously ignore, especially with "Alina" constantly asking him for money, a fan added that he may have used his savings as a "desperate measure" to "hold onto Alina's affection."
Another groundbreaking theory is that this Alina person might not be a Russian at all, but rather some local trying to scam the big shot of their small town.
Keep in mind though that the answer remains unknown and these are mere theories coming from fans.
We'll have to wait for more episodes to see if this theory leads somewhere. True Detective: Night Country streams on HBO.
