The long wait for Ahsoka season 2 just took a different turn for the franchise's expansion. Despite production having officially wrapped in late 2025, Disney and Lucasfilm's recent announcement of the next chapter of the Star Wars saga confirms that Ahsoka Tano won't be returning to our screens until 2027. Here's why.
When Can Fans Expect Ahsoka Season 2 to Return?

Star Wars fans will have to wait until early 2027 to see the continuation of Ahsoka Tano's journey. While the series initially anticipated a 2026 debut for season 2, lead actress Rosario Dawson confirmed the new window during Disney's May 2026 Upfront presentation. This marks a nearly four-year gap since the first season concluded in October 2023.
The end of Ahsoka season 1 saw Ahsoka and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) stranded on planet Peridea, the ancient and desolate homeworld of the Nightsisters of Dathomir. Season 2 will pick up straight from where season 1 ended, where Shin (Ivanna Sakhno) is hunting Ahsoka and Sabine down.
Now, Ahsoka season 2 will debut as part of Disney and Lucasfilm's 2027 Star Wars slate, which includes the February 19 re-release of the original Star Wars for the franchise's 50th anniversary, a May 27 theatrical release for Ryan Gosling's Star Wars: Starfighter, as well as a rumored debut of Maul: Shadow Lord season 2.
Why Ahsoka Tano's Return Suffered a 4-Year Delayed Release

As per the Upfront presentation, Ahsoka season 2 is the only live-action Star Wars series on the horizon, which may be one of the major reasons why the series faced a four-year delay to 2027. Disney+ is likely looking to stretch out its remaining live-action shows and utilize the high-profile titles at least for the first few months of the new year.
In addition to shifting focus at Disney and Lucasfilm, the Peridea storyline might just be too massive to cover in less than the given time. With the late 2025 wrap on filming, the season 2's post-production phase might prove to be more intensive to render the new galaxy to explore and expand in the franchise. Not to mention, its impending conflict with Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Lucasfilm seems to be spotlighting more on the theatrical return of the franchise with The Mandalorian and Grogu for 2026, leaving Ahsoka as the main streaming event for 2027. Perhaps to prevent overlapping the New Republic era content, which would allow the visual effects team the necessary time to polish the transitional phase from the "World Between Worlds" to the inevitable war for the galaxy.
