Fans who haven’t seen The Clone Wars don’t have to worry, though. Filoni assured them that they don’t need to watch or rewatch the animated series to prepare for what is to come in Ahsoka Season 2.
The upcoming new episodes will explain who the Mortis Gods are and what happened during their story arc in the previous show.
While it remains to be seen how they will be featured, they may be part of the flashbacks that could recreate what exactly happened in The Clone Wars by translating it into live action.
What Will Be the Mortis Gods’ Role in Ahsoka Season 2?
The arrival of the Mortis Gods in Ahsoka Season 2 will mark a major instance in the concept of the Force, as the animated The Clone Wars is now entering live action, especially after the first season saw Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) entering the World Between Worlds, which was first seen in Star Wars Rebels.
“It’s a challenge, I can tell you,” Dave Filoni admitted. “It was so surprising when George [Lucas] created these archetype god characters. What were we examining there in the Clone Wars? What was the metaphor?”
The showrunner added that “a lot of it is about power,” what they do with that power, and how they wield that power.
“For a Jedi, I think it's a natural story path to get into these questions,” Filoni continued.
Anyhow, the Mortis Gods’ arrival could spark another set of theories, especially regarding their connection with Anakin and Ahsoka’s stories.
With their deaths in The Clone Wars and return in Ahsoka Season 2, there are claims that Anakin, Ahsoka, and Baylan may become the new Father, Daughter, and Son, fulfilling Anakin’s destiny to bring balance to the Force and explaining why his Force ghost or Ahsoka are not part of the sequel trilogy.
As this remains unknown, fans will finally learn more about it when Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on January 20, 2027, on Disney+.
