The years-long speculation finally came to an end during the weekend. We can now officially confirm that Lars Mikkelsen will indeed play Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Ahsoka series. At the 2023 edition of the Star Wars Celebration in London, it was announced that Mikkelsen, who also voiced the menacing villain in Star Wars Rebels will be the latest actor from the animated shows to reprise their role in live-action.

Considering fans have been lobbying over the last three years to see Mikkelsen play the character in the MandoVerse, one would think that the reception to his casting would be rousing. However, some fans couldn't help but poke fun at Thrawn's physical appearance, and surprisingly enough, folks have the same sentiment about it — that he looks like a blue-skinned Elon Musk.

Following Mikkelsen's Celebration appearance, an image of him in full Thrawn costume began surfacing online and fans were a bit underwhelmed, to say the least. Unfortunately, Disney has taken down the leaks online but if you weren't able to catch it, just picture the Twitter owner with blue skin. And no, we're not even kidding. So far, we've only seen one image of Lars as Thrawn and honestly, it's still a little too early to place any judgment, especially since we've yet to actually see him in action. To be fair, Katee Sackhoff looked nothing like Bo-Katan from the animated shows but she still made things work.

We can definitely say the same thing about Mikkelsen and while he may not look as imposing as his animated counterpart some were obviously expecting, I'm pretty confident that his performance as Thrawn will make up for it.

Ahsoka is scheduled to hit Disney+ this August.
