Fans were pretty anxious when it was announced that Eiichiro Oda's One Piece would be getting the live-action Hollywood treatment. The fact that it'll be a series instead of a film alleviated some concern but given Hollywood's rough history of anime adaptations, fans still aren't too confident. However, some fans might be happy to know that Matt Owens - who has worked on Agents of SHIELD, Luke Cage, and The Defenders - will be penning the script for this series.
The news was broken by Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump (translated by Anime News Network), where Owens also provided a statement of his own. The Marvel writer said that One Piece is his favorite story in media and he considers it an honor to adapt something this influential. Here is the writer's full statement:

No release date for the live-action One Piece series has been announced. The current anime has started the Wano arc, now under the direction of Yamauchi Sigeyasu, who directed the wonderful Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
