Sung Hoon recently conquered the K-drama world again following his continuous appearances in several K-dramas.
After debuting as an actor in 2009 through White Brown’s Because I Love You, Sung Hoon only waited for nearly two years before reaching his breakthrough role in New Tales of Gisaeng. The Korean drama led him to score the New Star Award at the 2011 SBS Drama Awards.
Since then, he has become one of the showrunners and filmmakers’ favorites, that he has been tapped to become part of several series and movies. The current titles under his belt include The Bodyguard, Oh My Venus, My Secret Romance, Level Up, My Secret Star, and Are You in Love.
More recently, he showed notable performances in Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) and So I Married the Anti-Fan.
Though he has an endless list of potential projects, Sung Hoon chose to become part of Woori The Virgin due to one reason.
Why Sung Hoon Agreed To Play Lead Role in Woori The Virgin Revealed
Woori The Virgin serves as the Korean remake of the American show Jane the Virgin. Based on the original Venezuelan telenovela, the series tells the story of Oh Woo Ri, who wants to maintain chastity before marriage, as she gets pregnant after accidentally going through artificial insemination during a medical exam.
In the drama, Sung Hoon plays the role of CEO Raphael, the biological father of Oh Woo Ri’s child.
Before the drama’s premiere, the Korean actor sat for an interview where he shared details about his character and the drama itself.
As for the reason why Sung Hoon chose the K-drama as his next project, he revealed that his biggest reason was because of director Jung Jung Hwa.
“The biggest reason was director Jung Jung Hwa, who is in charge of both directing and writing the script. I previously worked with the director [Jung Jung Hwa] once before on ‘The Sound of Your Heart: Reboot 2,’ and I chose this drama without hesitation because of my good memories from back then,” he explained.
Sung Hoon Says He, His Character are Different
Elsewhere in the interview, Sung Hoon took his time to compare himself to his character in Woori the Virgin. Despite his confidence, he reportedly did not have much in common with Raphael.
He did not detail what makes him different from the character. Still, he took his time to compare the drama’s issue to what the modern society is facing: low birth rate.
For the actor, it has been a serious problem in South Korea. By watching the drama, Sung Hoon hoped that people would get to reflect on the issue again.
Woori The Virgin will premiere on May 9.
