Squid Game has become the most talked-about series in recent times. The Netflix original series has instantly won the hearts of many viewers because of its unique and compelling storyline.
Aside from the plot, the Squid Game cast members are among the most important reasons the series became a huge success. In a post-production interview, Director Hwang Dong Hyuk divulged that he had an idea on whom he wanted to play the characters in the series, including Abdul Ali or known as Player 199.
Filipino Actor Carlo Aquino Was Set To Play Abdul Ali in Squid Game
Filipino actor Carlo Aquino was supposedly set to play the character Abdul Ali, in Squid Game. However, a different actor was cast -- Indian actor Anupam Tripathi.
Carlo Aquino shared on his Instagram a photo story with a caption saying that he was supposed to play the Abdul Ali role in Squid Game. The photo showed a handwritten note by Squid Game Director Hwang Dong Hyuk expressing his excitement to work with the actor.
The sister of Carlo's girlfriend, Beatrice Candaza, shared his story on her Instagram explaining that the COVID-19 restrictions were among the reasons why Carlo could not fly to Korea in time for the filming of Squid Game.
"[Carlo] was supposed to play a role in Squid Game but travel restrictions happened. I remember [Trina, his girlfriend] calling me and saying they'll stay in Korea for a few months back in 2020. I'm sure there will be more opportunities," Beatrice wrote on her Instagram story.
Who Is Anupam Tripathi?
Anupam Tripathi's character in Squid Game immediately won the hearts of many of the viewers. Not only did Abdul Ali play his part really well, but he was also very kind-hearted.
For starters, Anupam Tripathi is an Indian national who has been living in Korea since 2010. He went to the Korea National University of Arts and has appeared on numerous Korean films such as Ode To My Father, Space Sweepers, Descendants of The Sun, and The Hospital Playlist.
