Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke has been candid about his own mortality as he approaches his 100th birthday in the coming months.
At the age of 99, the legendary actor remains active in the industry, frequently attending public events and occasionally appearing in television roles. Last year, he even became the oldest winner in Emmys history for his performance in the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives. Now that he is nearing 100 years old, fans are wondering how he will celebrate and whether he plans to continue working.
What Does Dick Van Dyke Think About Celebrating His 100th Birthday Later This Year?
According to People, Van Dyke reflected on his mortality as he is approaching his 100th birthday this December during a charity event for both his Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and the forthcoming Dick Van Dyke Museum.
"I'm not officially a hundred until December. Two months. Two months," he remarked to the crowd.
However, he also joked that it would be "funny" if he didn't make it to his birthday later this year.
"It'd be funny if I didn't make it," the Hollywood legend quipped.
Later in the event, Van Dyke also opened up about how he cannot believe that he managed to live this long. "I brag sometimes about how I made it to a hundred and the truth is, if I had known I was going to live this long, I would've taken better care of myself," he said.
However, he also said that approaching his centennial has been "frustrating because I don't know what I did right. Other than [my wife Arlene], I didn't do anything right."
Are There Upcoming Movie and TV Projects from Dick Van Dyke?
So far, Van Dyke is not attached to any of the upcoming movies or TV shows currently in development.
In the last few years, he has made guest appearances on Days of Our Lives (where he won an Emmy) and a voice role in The Simpsons. His most recent film appearance is in the 2018 sequel Mary Poppins Returns, where he played a different character from the original.
However, Van Dyke is still actively participating in fan events, charity galas, and media interviews to discuss his other projects and endeavors outside his acting work. There is no indication that he is planning to fully retire once he reaches the age of 100 this December.
