2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Squid Game And Jung Ho Yeon Among This Year’s Nominees

The Squid Game craze continues as the Netflix series, and Jung Ho Yeon was nominated at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

MTV Movie & TV Awards announced the list of nominees honoring the TV shows, movies, and celebrities that made an impact in the industry.

For 2022, the smash hit K-drama Squid Game will compete against Hollywood tv shows after it was included in the Best Show category.

Joining the 9-part episode series are HBO’s Euphoria, Loki, Inventing Anna, Ted Lasso, and the drama series Yellowstone.

Meanwhile, the Hwang Dong Hyuk directed series is the only non-American TV show who scored a nod for the said category.

In addition to the continuous achievement of Squid Game, Jung Ho Yeon has been nominated for Breakthrough Performance with fellow actresses Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza,) Ariana DeBose (West Side Story,) Hannah Einbinder (Hacks,) and Sophia Di Martino (Loki.)

While the Squid Game team celebrates another recognition for the huge success of the tv series, Euphoria and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which stars Zendaya and Tom Holland receiving the most nominations for their respective categories.

MTV Movie & TV Awards also shared that the upcoming annual ceremony is scheduled to be broadcast live from Los Angeles on June 5.

Moreover, fans can vote for their favorite tv show, movies, and celebrities through vote.mtv.com starting May 18. The final results will be released during the show.

Squid Game Season 2: Release Date, Cast And What We Know So Far

Following the public’s demand, Netflix confirmed that Squid Game would return for its second season.

In a report cited by Variety, the streaming giant’s co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos was asked if the South Korean survival drama will have a sequel, to which he replied, “Absolutely,” adding, “The Squid Game universe has just begun” announcing that the Netflix’s breakout hit of 2021 will have a season 2.

Following Ted Sarandos’ announcement, the creator behind the smash-hit series revealed the cast who will return for Squid Game season 2.

During his appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Television in Los Angeles together with Park Hae Soo, he shared that two cast members will reprise their roles.

As obtained by Soompi, Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will be back for the sequel.

“Seong Gi Hun will definitely return. I believe in his return, and I also believe that the Front Man will return,” he mentioned.

Player 456 is Seong Gi Hun, played by Lee Jung Jae, who is the sole winner of the survival game. Meanwhile, Lee Byung Hun took on the role of The Front Man, who used to be the game’s previous winner but became one of the people overseeing the activities.

While the team officially gets the green light from Netflix, News 1 shared that Squid Game season 2 is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2024.

This raises curiosity that the sequel will be bolder than the first season. In addition, fans are also looking forward to the possible cast joining the sequel.
