The 2022 Emmy Nominations are out now, and just like previous years, the medium of animation is well represented via the "Outstanding Animated Program for 2022" and "Outstanding Short Form Animation Program for 2022" categories. Long-running animated shows like The Simpsons and Rick and Morty made it to the nomations list, and there are newer titles that shouldn't come as a surprise to fans who enjoyed these shows.
The first season of Netflix's League of Legends animated series Arcane was greatly praised by critics and fans, and Season 2 is alredy in the works. The nine-episode series was released on the streaming service last November, and it features the story of Vi and Jinx, , sisters who find themselves on opposing sides of a brewing war over clashing convictions and arcane technologies.
Netflix has another show that received an Emmy nomination under the "Outstanding Short Form Animated Program" category, and that's Love, Death + Robots Volume 3, which I think is the strongest collection of standalone episodes. The Jibaro episode is probably the best the show ever released, and other episodes are also enjoyable to watch.
The sci-fi animated anthology will likely be renewed for a fourth season. Meanwhile, Disney Plus also has strong showings with nominees: Marvel's What If...? and Star Wars: Visions.
