Award-winning actress Helen Mirren stars as Cara Dutton in the latest installment of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe, the prequel series 1923.
In an interview with TheWrap's 2023 Awards Season Screening Series, Mirren shared her thoughts on the show and why she doesn't see it as a franchise.
Mirren expressed that she views Yellowstone as an examination of America's history, much like War & Peace examines Russia's history through the eyes of families and their members.
She also admitted that she wasn't overly familiar with the original show but was drawn to 1923 because of Sheridan's exceptional writing. The scripts were "psychologically interesting" to play, according to Mirren, and they arrived as complete works that didn't need any changes.
