Darkman (1990)
Dr. Peyton Wilder is left psychologically and physically scarred for life after a crime boss led a vicious assault on him. Upon recovering, Wilder began his scientific experiment of transforming himself into synthetic skin that could change his facial structures however he pleases.
Assuming the phantom avenger persona, Darkman, this 'hero' avenges this crime done against him while wreaking havoc against the criminal community.

Never underestimate the power of animated storytelling, especially when it comes to this family of supers. If anything, The Incredibles depicted one of the most controversial yet innovative superhero stories — imagine getting banned from using your superpowers to help citizens, all because the people and government want to keep the country safe from supernatural hazards.

The Crow (1994)
The Crow centers on the story of how musician Eric Draven and his fiancée are brutally murdered by a violent city gang.
Quite shockingly, on the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and becomes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger, which gave him the ability to rightfully track down the thugs responsible for city crimes by mercilessly murdering them.

Megamind (2010)
Megamind is not the main hero of the story, but it's still a superhero movie, nonetheless. After finally defeating Metropolis's super, Metro Man, the blue-headed evil genius is left to ponder what else is there to do on Earth? He ends up building himself a superhero he could fight with on a daily basis. That is, until he realized too late how very wrong he was with this game plan.

Unbreakable (2000)
After becoming a survivor of a high-fatality train crash, David Dunn gains superhuman strength and durability through a superior immune system while being able to sense wrongdoings through touch (psychometry).
Who would've thought that Unbreakable would eventually grow its own franchise, with Split (2016) about a main character who develops Dissociative Identity Disorder, and Glass (2019), where the first two main leads unite, thanks to the mysterious Elijah Price, the criminal mastermind who holds critical secrets for both men.
