The Original Ghostbusters Are To Return For Jason Reitman’s New Movie

It's official. The surviving cast of the original Ghostbusters are going to make their way back and appear in Columbia Pictures' Ghostbusters 3.

Earlier this week, pop culture movie fans were surprised when Columbia announced that it was working on a new Ghostbusters movie with Jason Reitman, the son of the original film's director, Ivan Reitman. What was even more surprising was the teaser trailer that was released a few hours after Ghostbusters 3's announcement. While the video didn't give away too much, the dark tone of the teaser certainly did ramp up anticipation over the film, teasing fans with the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 hidden away in a ramshackle barn.

This morning, original Ghostbusters stars Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd decided to share the teaser on their Twitter accounts. Now, it looks like Hudson has just confirmed that he, Akyroyd, and Bill Murray are set to return in Ghostbusters 3.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Mail, Hudson opened up about his participation in Reitman's new Ghostbusters movie, saying that the original team were going to appear in the film. The actor also mentioned Harold Ramis, Ghostbusters's original Egon Spengler, saying that while his friend's long since been gone, his spirit remains.

"I miss him, but his spirit is there. But Ivan Reitman is there and everybody is in," Hudson told the publication, "He was my go-to point and anything that was a little bit weird, or whatever, Harold was the guy who would sort of say, Ernie, just…and explain the world to me."

No doubt that Ramis' spirit will be with the production of Ghostbusters 3. Set in the universe of the original franchise, the film will feature four teenagers along with the original Ghostbusters stars.

Ghostbusters 3 is set to premiere sometime in 2020.
