Here’s Why The Symbiotes Are Drawn To Earth In Sony’s Venom Movie

Venom has less than two weeks to go till its big premiere next month, but Sony continues to push the film's marketing campaign, showering fans with new trailers, featurettes, and interviews.

In one of the most recent interviews about the upcoming Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters installment, Venom visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin explains the reason why alien symbiotes have been arriving on Earth in the movie.

Speaking with IGN, Franklin reveals that the extraterrestrial organisms that arrive on Earth through a retrieved space probe from Carlton Drake's (Riz Ahmed) Life Foundation are actually looking for planets where they can find hosts to inhabit.

"The symbiotes seem to actively want to be collected. Because it's all part of their plan to come to Earth. They're looking for planets where they can find hosts to inhabit," the visual effects supervisor explained. "They've never really found a place where they can exist in harmony with the life forms of whatever planet they find themselves on."

Of course, the symbiote's comic book origin is very different from that of Sony's upcoming Venom movie. In the comic book source material, the symbiotes end up on Earth after boding with Spider-Man on the interstellar planet Battleworld.

In Spider-Man 3, the symbiotes arrive on a meteorite. Meanwhile, in Venom, the writers try to retain the symbiote's extraterrestrial roots at the same time putting them in the direct possession of the Life Foundation – an organization which is supposed to be a scientific endeavor meant for the benefit of mankind but instead ends up being a cover-up for terrible scientific experiments.

Venom hits cinemas October 5, 2018.
