Star Wars: The Last Jedi Was Partially Shot In IMAX

Ever since the first movie, Star Wars has always been a pioneer when it comes to visuals, and the new trilogy kickstarted by JJ Abrams back in 2015 doesn't seem to hold back the punches. It was just recently revealed that Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi was shot in IMAX, and the same tech will be used to shoot Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Avengers: Infinity War.

PR Newswire reports that Disney and IMAX have decided to extend their blockbuster deal all the way through to 2019, and IMAX cameras were used to capture some "key sequences" in The Last Jedi. The IMAX Corporation writes:

"Following J.J. Abrams' iconic use of IMAX® cameras in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the companies have also announced that director Rian Johnson has captured key sequences of Star Wars: The Last Jedi using IMAX's extremely high-resolution cameras, delivering IMAX audiences greater scope and increased image quality in IMAX's exclusive aspect ratio for a uniquely immersive experience. Additionally, as previously announced, Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers sequel will be shot in their entirety by The Russo Brothers with IMAX® cameras."

Seeing that the deal encompasses all other companies under the Disney banner, expect IMAX tech to be used for the upcoming Marvel and Lucasfilm projects like Black Panther, Ant-man and the Wasp, the upcoming Avengers movies, and an untitled Indiana Jones film; not to mention the live-action Disney remakes like Beauty and the Beast and Mulan, as well as upcoming animated movies like Wreck-It-Ralph 2 and Toy Story 4.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to come out on Dec. 15.
