Star Wars Battlefront 2 Fails To Top Charts During First Week Of Release

It looks like all the backlash surrounding EA's pay-to-win mechanic in Star Wars: Battlefront II is hurting the game's sales.

Not only has EA felt the consequences of its greedy unlockable character credit monetization method placed in the highly anticipated Star Wars Battlefront sequel when its stock prices went down immediately after, but it seems like the game's sales are coming in lower as well.

A new UK boxed sales chart for Star Wars Battlefront II's week of release has just come up on GamesIndustry.biz and it seems like the game's been beaten by Call of Duty: WWII.

Here are the top ten games in the UK boxed sales chart.

  1. Call of Duty: WWII (new entry)
  2. Star Wars Battlefront II (new entry)
  3. FIFA 18
  4. Pokémon Ultra Sun (new entry)
  5. Pokémon Ultra Moon (new entry)
  6. Assassin's Creed Origins
  7. The Sims 4 (new entry)
  8. LA Noire Remastered (new entry)
  9. Super Mario Odyssey
  10. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (new entry)

Second place might not seem too shabby, but EA would have definitely wanted the top spot, especially after the budget it spent on the development of Battlefront II. The publication also found out that the game's launch-week sales come up 61% lower than what EA experienced with the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront and 50% lower than EA's shooter, Battlefield 1.

A lot of players have probably been calling off their pre-orders and avoiding purchasing Star Wars Battlefront II as some sort of protest towards EA and Dice.

Hopefully, this will be another sign for EA to dump its whole pay-to-win scheme.

Star Wars Battlefront II is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
