Star Wars Battlefront 2: EA Temporarily Removes In-Game Purchases

In the midst of all the controversy and backlash EA has garnered, the company has announced that Star Wars Battlefront II will launch without any in-game purchases. This isn't a permanent move, however, because the company plans on bringing the option back once changes to the game are made. While we won't know how long this process will be, fans should be happy with the fact that they can play the game and not have to worry about people using pay-to-win tactics.

According to the statement from EA, all progression rewards can be earned through gameplay, with no alternatives until the option for in-game pay returns. This definitely makes the game fairer, resulting in a more balanced online community. Of course, people that preordered the game will have a few advantages over players that buy later on, but it's definitely the lesser of two evils.

Only time will tell how important this move is, but it's a good sign for gamers. For a time, it felt like we would see loot boxes and pay-to-win strategies in every major game release, with Middle Earth:Shadow of War and Assassin's Creed: Origins being prime suspects of this. However, now that word of mouth has made EA humble, it might make other companies think twice about adding in-game purchases in future releases.

Then again, EA did say that in-game purchases would return somewhere down the line. If this ends up making the company some money, this victory for gamers will only be temporary. We can only hope that things will get better for gaming in general, but we will have to wait and see.

Star Wars Battlefront II is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
