Roel Reine To Direct the First 2 Episodes of Marvel's The Inhumans

Dutch director Roel Reine has been tapped by Marvel to helm the first two episodes of The Inhumans, its latest series about a super-powered race who has chosen to hide from humanity.Reine is an award-winning filmmaker in his native Netherlands where he got critical acclaim and the equivalent of an Oscar award for his movie, The Delivery.U.S. viewers may recognize him as the director behind Starz's buccaneering series, Black Sails.

Making The Inhumans is said to be a risk for Marvel because the group is one of their least known superhero teams, having neither the following nor popularity of Avengers or X-Men.This strange ultra-human species was created and left on Earth by the Kree 7,000 years ago. It also has a standoffishness that has made comic readers feel alternately sympathetic, intrigued, or alienated, a reaction pretty similar to the comic book heroes it iinteracts with.

The series will follow the exploits of its royal family, especially Black Bolt, the silent leader whose use of vocal chords can literally shatter entire cities. IMDB says that Vin Diesel has been rumored to play the taciturn king.

The other members of the clan are the red-haired queen Medusa, the martial arts master Karnak, the hedonistic Gorgon, the amphibious Triton, and the headstrong princess Crystal.

Maybe that's why Marvel, ABC, and IMAX are taking a radical approach in unveiling The Inhumans to today's audience. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reine's first two introductory episodes will premiere in 1,000 IMAX theatres across the country during the Labor Day weekend. Afterwards, the rest of the episodes will air on ABC.
