Pacific Rim Uprising Director Wants R Rated God of War Movie

God of War, or God of War 4 if we're sticking with proper chronology, came out earlier this year and many are already claiming that it's a game of the year contender. The story was good and combat was still visceral, so it will be interesting to see what the fifth game in the series is like. In fact, the story was so well told that some have called it cinematic.

So it's no surprise that Pacific Rim Uprising director Travis DeKnight has shown interest in helming a film adaptation of the series.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, DeKnight revealed that he has spoken with a few people in Sony about bringing Kratos to the big screen. While the director admits that there hasn't been a good video game movie out yet, with Rampage being the highest rated video game movie of all time, it's going to be an uphill struggle.

"I would love to see it. Somebody had asked me about video games and I've always been a fan of God of War. I think the latest game was just so beautiful and phenomenal. I would love to tackle God of War movie or I would love to see somebody put that up on the big screen. Somebody asked me, 'Well, who would you have to have Kratos?' And immediately for me: Dave Batista would be the man. I think he can do anything. You can do drama, real emotion, humor, action. What would I like to see from a movie like that? A bit of a tricky question because there hasn't really been 100% success of translating a video game to a movie. It's a very, very tricky process."

Interestingly enough, DeKnight said he would love to see Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista as Kratos, which could work. He always showed a lot of intensity when he was in the WWE, so seeing tear fools apart with his bare hands would be really entertaining.

Finally, DeKnight emphasized that if a God of War film was ever made, it would have to be R rated. This is just common sense, to be honest since a PG-13 God of War film would be too tame.

God of War is available now on PS4.
