We already know that Patty Jenkins is perfectly capable of directing an action-packed comic book movie. But could she have directed a Justice League sequel? The Wonder Woman 1984 director has admitted that Warner Bros. offered her the chance to work on another DC Extended Universe project but she turned it down for some interesting reasons.
Jenkins was recently interviewed for the French magazine Premiere where she shared how she approaches the idea of working on a comic book movie (via Instagram).
"I love comics, but I've come to superheroes through films," Jenkins said. "There is in me this desire to emulate compared to the movies I saw as a child. A certain spirit that reigned in those times. Is that relevant when I shoot? I don't know. The point is, unlike other directors, I don't really care about shared universes, continuity, and that kind of detail."
Interestingly, Jenkins also revealed that Warner Bros. had wanted her to helm a Justice League sequel. However, she confessed that she wasn't interested in taking on a major project.
"I've been contacted to make a Justice League movie in the past, and it doesn't connect to me. Too many characters," Jenkins said.
It's understandable why Jenkins chose to turn down the offer considering that a Justice League sequel will probably introduce even more new characters that will need to be given a proper storyline. Needless to say, we're just happy that she chose to work on Wonder Woman 1984 so we can get more of Gal Gadot's Diana Prince.
Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for release on August 14.
