Devil May Cry is finally getting another animated series adaptation. Not surprisingly, the show will be developed for Netflix by Castlevania producer Adi Shankar.
Shankar had previously teased on major video game news on his official Twitter account. It was later revealed to IGN that the producer got the rights to adapt Devil May Cry. He later posted an image of himself cosplaying as Dante to celebrate the announcement. Check out his post below.
According to Shankar, Devil May Cry "will join Castlevania in what we're now calling the bootleg multiverse." Does this mean we can expect a major crossover featuring Dante and Alucard? Shankar might make it happen so let's cross our fingers on this one.
The Devil May Cry animated series doesn't have a clear storyline yet. Nevertheless, Shankar pointed out that he "acquired these rights myself so the jabronis in Hollywood don't f--k this one up too." Considering that he's done an amazing job on Castlevania, we can only expect good things from the new Netflix series.
This isn't the first time that Devil May Cry has been adapted in an animated show. Madhouse has previously produced an anime adaptation in 2007. However, the Shankar reboot is expected to be even bloodier and truer to the Capcom game.
The success of Castlevania may have been the reason why Shankar was able to get the rights for DMC. The producer gushed about how the series "really over-performed." He also confirmed that "we immediately got greenlit for Season 3" so it sounds like Shankar has a lot on his plate at the moment.
The Devil May Cry animated series has not yet been given a release date. Nevertheless, the show is expected to air on Netflix by 2019.
