Marvel's 'Doc Justice and The J-Team' are Actually....The Runaways?

After a mysterious teaser that got people talking, it turns out that Marvel's much-ballyhooed Doc Justice and the J-Team is actually Doc Justice and The Runaways. That's right, we're going to be seeing Alex, Nico, Chase, Molly, and the others in superhero costumes as they join the mysterious Doc Justice. The arc will begin in Runaways #25, which comes out this September, so if you haven't pre-ordered yet, do so now.

Detailed in Marvel.com, the arc might begin with issue #25 but Runaways #27 is when things will be heating up. They even brought back artist Kris Anka for the issue, which is always worth celebrating since he is an immensely talented artist. While he drew a few arcs, Anka soon just drew the covers so it'll be nice to have him for one issue.

Veteran editor Nick Lowe had this to say about the upcoming arc, which he's pretty pumped for:

"We started mapping out the latest arc of RUNAWAYS, issues #25-30, and we thought about one of the things that this series does best is take a classic superhero comic idea and subvert it, do a Runaways spin on it. From classic moments in the original Brian K. Vaughan-Adrian Alphona run to stuff in the more recent issues, so much of this series is about subverting those Super Hero expectations and ideas. And something that Super Hero comics do is a big costume change or a name change, and Rainbow had the idea for Doc Justice and the J-Team—this venerable Los Angeles hero who's without his support team. And maybe the Runaways become that! So what we've got coming up is Doc Justice recruiting the Runaways, and they've never done anything like this before."

It's worth noting that The Runaways have never really considered themselves superheroes, despite saving people with their powers. Most of the time, these characters are just chilling together and they don't really look for trouble. Unfortunately, trouble comes to them a lot so seeing them try and embrace the Marvel status quo and become superheroes should be an interesting take for these characters.

This is actually a fairly intriguing status quo for the series. As someone who read the original Brian K. Vaughan comics in college, it warms my heart seeing a successful Runaways ongoing series doing so well and the fact that the creators aren't afraid to go on a weird direction like this is pretty cool. While all signs point to Doc Justice being evil, we're sure that the twist will be something more interesting than we think it is.

Runaways #25 will be coming out this September.
