Magic: The Gathering Teases Big Announcement This Friday

Last Valentine's Day, DailyMTG content manager Blake Rasmussen teased a "Big Announcement Day" after the release of Dominaria. Today, Wizards of the Coast's Trick Jarret revealed on Twitter that the next major Magic: The Gathering announcement is coming this Friday, May 18, 2018.

According to Rasmussen, the announcement "will look deeper into Magic's future and what plane or planes we'll be visiting after said core set", so expect Wizards of the Coast to reveal details about the next planes we'll be visiting after Core Set 2019. Since Dominaria is a return set, I was hoping that the set after Core Set 2019 won't be a return set. I'd rather see a new plane explored but I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a return to Lorwyn or Kamigawa.

Earlier today, MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater confirmed that there are multiple return sets planned in the next few years but haven't revealed any details about them yet.

This Friday's announcement might also reveal the next Masters set but I doubt that they'll announce that since Masters 25 was just released back in March.

Stay tuned this Friday. Epicstream will report the announcement as soon as we get the scoop.
