Luke Skywalker Goes Podracing In May’s Star Wars Annual #4

While fans often look at the Star Wars prequels with derision, they have left their impact on the franchise in a few meaningful ways. One meaningful sequence fans remember from The Phantom Menace - the worst Star Wars movie - is the podracing sequence, which was so intense and fun that Lucasarts made an acclaimed Nintendo 64 game out of the concept.

Star Wars Annual #4 will be looking back at the concept, this time during the era of the original trilogy.

According to the official solicitation (via Newsarama), the one-shot will have Luke Skywalker, Sana Starros, and a "certain Dark Lord" in it. The solicitation is pretty vague, though having Luke take part in his dad's old hobby sounds very enticing.

It's also been a while since we've seen Sana Starros, the ex-wife of Han Solo, so that should be fun. The "dark lord" should be Darth Vader, though that could be Marvel planning a swerve for the sake of a twist. Still, seeing Vader take part or witness a podrace after everything he's been through would be an emotional moment for the character.

Here is the official solicitation of the comic:
