Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo Says Disney’s Fox Acquisition Still Won’t Bring Original Star Wars Trilogy Release

Star Wars fans might have been hoping that Disney sealing the acquisition deal with 21st Century Fox would mean the release of the original unaltered versions of the original Star Wars trilogy, however, it seems like the possibility of having the original versions of the films are still highly unlikely.

Taking on Twitter, Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo shot down fans hopes, preemptively answering the question about the possibility of having the unaltered films released on home video.

Though Hidalgo doesn't give an explicit answer, he's already told fans time and time again why Lucasfilm can't give the unaltered versions of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi. The reason is George Lucas himself. Lucas says that he had already released the definitive versions of the original trilogy in 2011 and that fans didn't need the original versions of the movie.

Though Disney owns the rights to the original films, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy doesn't seem like she has any intention of going against Lucas' wishes. Guess fans will have to pester Lucas himself if they really want the original version of the original trilogy.

Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas tomorrow, December 15, 2017.
