Finn Jones Says Iron Fist Training Involves Martial Arts and Buddhism

It's known that Marvel's Netflix series, Iron Fist, will involve different types of martial arts and obviously a lot of physical training. Apparently, the series will also include mental and spiritual training, specifically Buddhist philosophy and meditation.

In an interview with EW in this week's print issue, Iron Fist lead Finn Jones, who plays Danny Rand, discussed how his training is different from the usual physical superhero training. The 28-year-old actor said his preparation for Iron Fist involves hours of training each day with "kung fu and wushu mixed with a bit of tai chi."

In addition, he also does extensive weight training for "bulking" up.

What's surprising though, and actually quite refreshing, is the former Game of Thrones star saying that he undergoes mental training through Buddhism as well.

He told the magazine:

I've always dreamed of a role that bridged spiritual discipline and badass superhero. There's a contradiction in those elements that's going to be very fun to play.

Last month, Marvel's Joe Quesada also discussed how Iron Fist will be "completely different" from other Marvel TV characters.

He said:

Danny Rand is a completely different character and the world that he comes from, how he obtained his powers and his skills — all completely different. I think fans will be pleased.

Looks like there's a lot more to this series to be excited about. So far, each Marvel TV series appears to give viewers a unique tone that they haven't seen yet.

Marvel's Netflix series so far, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones have been pretty spectacular. I'm not expecting any less with Iron Fist.

Iron Fist is now in pre-production following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage from Marvel TV and Netflix, the events of which will lead up to a mini-series that brings together the four heroes. The mini-series will be called The Defenders.

Iron Fist is expected to be released on 2017.
