Final Fantasy XV Won’t Be Open-World All the Way

The environment and settings in Final Fantasy XV may be a wonder to behold. But it seems that exploring the world will be limited to only the first half of the game.

Famitsu revealed (via Siliconera) that the game has been structured in such a way that there is both open-world exploration and linear story progression. The game will have 16 chapters all in all, numbered 0 to 15. And according to Game Director Hajime Tabata, this is a way for the game to progress so that the players won't get tired of the open world.

At the same time, they will be able to enjoy the kind of progression that hails back to the tradition of other Final Fantasy games.

"As for Final Fantasy XV's structure, it has both an open world part and a linear part. The open world [element] continues throughout the first half, and because of the story, the second half progresses linearly."

Tabata also confirmed that the game's main route is anywhere between 40 to 50 hours, so there's still a good deal of open-world exploring to do.

If you feel a little let down by that news, the source also confirmed that there will be six DLCs with the Season Pass, and more planned out that are beyond the season pass coverage.

No detail has been confirmed yet as to what those other DLCs may contain, but as far as non-essential gameplay features are concerned, Tabata did mention that costumes and even cooking repertoire may be included in future expansions.

Final Fantasy XV will be out on Nov. 29 on the PS4 and Xbox One.
