Carrie Fisher Wrote These Two Moments In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

[THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI]

Other than playing Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher was renowned for being a "script doctor" who polished up scripts for several movies including some from the original Star Wars trilogy. Director Rian Johnson reveals that Fisher has partly written two emotional scenes from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and now that the movie is out, he can point out which ones specifically.

Talking to the Daily Beast, Johnson explains how Fisher had a hand in writing the Skywalker reunion between Luke and Leia. He explains:

"The whole thing where she sits down with Luke and [says], ‘I changed my hair,' obviously, that was her."

I thought it was also a nod to her meeting Han Solo in The Force Awakens where Han's first words were, "You changed your hair." Either way, Luke handing the dice to Leia was also a way to convey that Han Solo was still remembered.

As for the other scene, Fisher also collaborated with Laura Dern in the send-off of Vice Admiral Holdo. In the EU canon, Leia and Holdo have been friends since before the events of A New Hope, and their final goodbye in The Last Jedi had to have some emotional ring to it. Johnson says:

"That whole Holdo scene, that goodbye scene was actually completely rewritten with Carrie and with Laura. The three of us got together and worked through it. And the real heart of that scene came from Laura. It was her saying, ‘I just feel like, from my character to Leia, but also me to Carrie, I want to express what she means to me. I want to express my gratitude.'"

For now, we don't know how Lucasfilm plans to send-off Fisher in Star Wars Episode IX, but Johnson is happy that her last moments in the film are saying words of hope to Rey.
