Black Panther Reportedly Causing Uptick In The Adoption Of Black Cats

Black Panther sure is making a dent on the comic book movie industry. Not only is T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) first standalone movie proving the value of representation, it's also started a heartwarming tick in the adoption of black cats.

According to a recent Tumblr Post by Marvel fan Gallusrostromegalus, Black Panther's success has lead to an increase in black cat adoptions in local pet shelters.

Shelters often find it difficult to find new homes for black cats because of superstitions that say that the ebony-colored felines bring bad luck and that they've got something to do with witchcraft.

However, according to this new post, it seems like more there's been a significant increase in the adoption of black cats ever since Black Panther with most foster parents naming their new pets "T'Challa," "Okoye" and "Shuri."

This tick in black cat adoption doesn't sound all that surprising. Popular films and television series often influence the decisions of their audience, including decisions in pet adoption. Last year, dog rescue centers and animal shelters like the San Francisco Animal Care & Control reported that there was a noticeable uptick in the purchase and adoption of Siberian huskies because of the influence of Game of Thrones. Though the uptick also lead to an increased number of abandoned huskies, we're hoping that foster parents who've adopted these black cats after watching Black Panther stick with the decision they've made. It'd be terribly heartbreaking to see all the T'Challas and Okoye's losing their new-found homes.

Black Panther is currently screening in cinemas.
