Tesco Apologizes After Making Offensive Black Panther Costume Mistake

British multinational merchandise retailer Tesco has just apologized for "any offence caused" for its Black Panther costume mix-up.

The company made the mistake of listing down a children's Black Panther costume as a "Marvel Avengers Dark Panther Fancy Dress Costume" on the fancy dress portion of its website. Costumers were quick to notice the offensive mistake and some took to social media to call out Tesco on its error.

Tesco immediately amended the product description once it noticed the various complaints online and then the company issued an apology, saying that they were sorry for any offence caused by the Black Panther costume mix-up.

"This was a mistake and we are extremely sorry for any offence caused. We are correcting the description of this product on our website and are reviewing our processes to ensure this doesn't happen again," the company wrote in a statement (via NME).

Though some might think that Tesco's mistake could be overlooked, changing Black Panther to Dark Panther has negative and derogatory implications, and it's good that the company immediately owned up to the mistake and fixed the listing online.

Black Panther has been nothing but a success. Not only has the film been enjoying overwhelmingly positive reviews, but it's also become one of Marvel's top earners.

Black Panther is currently screening in cinemas.
