Dan Aykroyd Confirms Ghostbusters 2020 Return

After the 2016 reboot crashed and burned, Ghostbusters is set to come back to the original continuity with Ghostbusters 2020. The movie is set to focus on whole new characters, but members of the original cast are also making a comeback. Just in, Dan Aykroyd has confirmed he'll be in the movie.

Talking to the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, Aykroyd confirms, "I'm not in the pictures so much anymore. We've got the Ghostbusters movie that we're working on now and I will have to be performing in that… Ivan Reitman's son Jason has written a new movie called, well, it's gonna be Ghostbusters, the third movie. It will be all, most of the original people and then young stars."

In the 2016 reboot, several core members of the Ghostbusters cast had made cameo appearances, but they didn't reprise any roles. Aykroyd had played a cab driver who was ‘afraid of no ghosts'; his former co-stars Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson also played different characters.

In the original films, Aykroyd played Ray Stantz, who was more of the engineer of the team. Stantz has always been one of the more optimistic members of the Ghostbusters, so I expect he's going to be one of the people who will introduce the new characters to the job.

Besides Reitman, Ernie Hudson had revealed that he's talked to the Reitman's about the movie last February, but he's yet to be offered a job. With that quote coming out months ago, it's likely they finally found a role for Hudson.

Ghostbusters 2020 is set to hit theaters on July 10, 2020.
